Too long...lots of changes!

Almost two months since my last post and I don't know where to begin...quick hits:

1. New job - President of Griffen Bikes
2. Training got to far behind...pulled out of Coeur D'Alene triathlon...may try Florida with a community spot.
3. Spring Break vacation to Disney World with my girls - awesome time - pics to follow.
4. Practicing my trumpet...Satchmo would be proud!

...there is more, but it's all in the details!

For my friends who read this from time to time...thanks for checking back...some of you called and asked "what's up?"..I appreciate it. Seems like I have let "the world go by" and have not done a very good job of staying abreast of the most important source of inspiration and motivation...my friends! You all are terrific and I hope you continue to "kick my butt" to not fall off the map! There...I feel better...and I know you are all bored!

I have lots to chat about, but really want to highlight some pictures from our Spring Break vacation. Disney World with 8 & 10 year old girls is Utopia! There isn't anything better!! We had a blast - the weather was perfect - and I'll let some of the pictures tell the rest of the story.

Love this anaolgy!!!

The Mayonnaise Jar and 2 Cups of Coffee

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with an unanimous "yes."

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things---God, your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions---and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car

The sand is everything else---the small stuff. "If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

"Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Spend time with your parents. Visit with grandparents. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first---the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled and said, "I'm glad you asked."

The coffee just shows you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend."

49 Forever!!!!!!

Good Morning Vietnam!!!!!!

Today is my 49th birthday - and that's it...I am never, never having another one! Once you roll that first digit to 5 - you are just too frickin' old! So, I will remain 49 forever and continue to do triathlons, marathons, and just plain "thons" for as long as these very shaved and well defined legs will let me!

My oldest daughter informed me this morning that I seem about 37 and am still the "coolest dad" at Lakeside (her school!). My apologies to all the other dad's who may be reading this...but the title is mine and I don't intend to give it up lightly!

Had a doctor's appointment today to get the annual check-up - everything looks great except (I hate hearing that word at the Doctor's office) - I need to loose a few pounds and get off caffeine! The vitals and blood profile - however support my daughters review - I am 37 and still very cool!

Weak Week...

With the weather, my job interviewing, and my general lack of "I don't feel like it" - it has been a tough week of getting in my workouts. Anyone else have this issue??? (You know, this blogging pressure doens't help either...

Happy New Year - Here we go!

Happy New Year everyone...I hope everyone is safe and sound for their partying...we are having a pajama poker party at the Wecker household!

I am "blowing it out" tonight and then really getting tough on my nutrition, eating habits and training! No more sugar...soft drinks... sweets...anything good! After really not training too hard for about 3 months, it is now time to kick it in and concentrate on this Iron man event! I want to finish strong and not embarrass myself at this event!

Anyway...enough about me...Christmas was awesome at the Wecker household...Santa was disgustingly generous this year, with our biggest present being a baby grand piano for the family.
This has always been a dream for me...so now it is on to piano lessons!

I'll check in later after the hang over wears off!

White Rock 2006 Was Awesome

It was a great day at the White Rock marathon. The weather was perfect and people were breaking records all over. Some of the people who hit their marks were:

Me!!! (ran the 1/2 -can you believe it - they won't get this horse to the glue factory just yet!)
Diana Stonecipher - personal best in the marathon!
Candy Sheehan - first marathon!
Jim Luchanich (1:28 half...second in age group!)
Cindy Coronado
Jeff Bennett - 3:05 marathon!!! Place 73 over all!!!

I am sure there are more...but just can't remember this morning!!

Some pictures below of the fun and love at the event!!!

Then we wrapped it all up with the Dallas Athletes Christmas party - lots of fun and a great way to send off the year!

Today really starts the Ironman IMCDA training...I must make it to the pool! I have gained a few pounds of the last few weeks and that will only make all this upcoming training worse - so it's back to the grind stone for my waist line!

I'm am finally feeling rested and getting ready to take on this challenge...I should, heck I haven't been the pool or on a bike since August! So here we go...and stay tuned..more to come over the holidays!
